Health Satsangh - February 5th, 2006 - Synopsis
High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is the most
common non-infectious illness in the
Western world. It affects 1/3 of all adults and 1/2 adults over 65
years of age. Earlier in the illness, it causes no symptoms. Over
time, uncontrolled high blood pressure results in hardening of blood
vessels that supply the heart, brain, kidneys and other vital organs
and is one of the leading causes of heart attack, disabling stroke and
kidney failure requiring dialysis. For this reason, it is also called
"the silent killer"- causes no symptoms at the beginning, but slowly
cuts off blood supply to critical organs, resulting in their failure.
Dr. Sandeep Gupta is a specialist of high blood pressure and kidney
diseases at the University of Minnesota and VA Medical Center. He will
be discussing high blood pressure at the upcoming Health Satsangh on
