The twentieth century, especially its second half, is marked with tremendous achievements on the scientific and technological frontiers including outer space, medicine and electronics. The applications of each area has made a significant impact in improving our life style. In spite of all this, we are still not at peace amongst ourselves and even more importantly within ourselves. We are worried about 'Star Wars', alcohol and drug abuse, the high divorce rate and simply apathy for one another. Peace and happiness seem to be elusive. Spiritual development and mental achievements must go on in parallel with materialism. This is needed to strike a balance amongst arts, sciences, technology, materialism and spiritualism. For development of a peaceful society, every person has to look beyond one's immediate self and go soul searching. If we wish to convince others and win them over, we have to first conquer our weaknesses. Love and respect for fellow beings irrespective of caste, color, faith, affliction follows then. The greatest gospel of the equality of all human beings universal brotherhood, peace and happiness of world has been propounded in the Srimad Bhagvad Geeta thousands of years ago by Lord Krishna. With the above ideals in mind, His Holiness Shri Swami Hari Har Ji Maharaj established Geeta Ashrams in India and abroad. The first one was established in 1949 in Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna.
